Zohar Bereshit — Folio 101a
Summary
The Zohar completes its explanation of “his soul” and “my soul”: “my soul” is the soul of David, the side of faith, and “his soul” is the soul of the person himself, which, when he leaves this world, rises through good deeds and walks among the holy ones, as it is said: “I shall walk before the Lord in the land of the living.” The text then turns to Abraham after the circumcision: he sat in pain, and the Holy One, blessed be He, openly sent him three angels to greet him. These angels are holy spirits that, when they descend to the world, clothe themselves in air and elements and appear as human beings. Abraham went out and ran after them despite his pain. Rabbi Shimon says that at the verse “He said: My Lord” the Divine Presence comes, and the angels are her pillars and throne, the three shades beneath her.
