Zohar Bereshit — Folio 108a
Summary
The Zohar continues on the judgment of Gehenna: the people of the flood were judged by cold waters from above and boiling waters from below, and those of Sodom by sulfur and fire. According to the verse “which the Lord overthrew in His anger and wrath,” the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah will not rise for the day of judgment: in this world, in the world to come, and at the resurrection. God’s judgment is measure for measure: they withheld food, drink and charity from the poor, and life and mercy were withheld from them. Rabbi Abba says that all people will rise for judgment, and that God is the Master of mercy. Rabbi Ḥiyya explains “He sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow”: Lot had settled in all the cities, but only the king of Sodom received him, because of Abraham.
