זוהר בראשית — דף קיא ע”ב

Summary

The Zohar interprets “Lot went up from Zoar” in terms of the degrees of impurity: from Lot’s daughters came Moab and Ammon, Moab at the degree of Peor, entirely in the open, and Ammon at the degree of Malkhom, in concealment. According to the text, King David was joined to Ruth and to Ammon, hence the crown and the testimony. “Abraham journeyed from there”: all his journeys were toward the south. Regarding “she is my sister,” it is said that a person should not rely on a miracle, yet Abraham relied on the Divine Presence, which dwelt with Sarah, as it is written: “Say to wisdom, you are my sister.” “God came to Abimelech”: this is the appointed messenger of judgment. Rabbi Shimon opens with “The lip of truth is established forever,” applied to Abraham, and “a lying tongue” applied to Abimelech.
