זוהר בראשית — דף קיב ע”ב
Summary
The Zohar explains the verse “You shall fear the Lord your God, serve Him, cling to Him, and swear by His name”: the particle et is the first degree, the place of fear; “and Him” (oto) refers to the place of the holy covenant, where service belongs; “by His name” is the seventh place. Before going down to Egypt, Abraham first tied the knot of faith, like a man who fastens a rope above before descending into a pit, and likewise in the land of the Philistines. Abimelech said “in the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands,” yet he was told only “the integrity of your heart.” Rabbi Yehuda opens with “He guards the feet of His faithful,” applied to Abraham and to Sarah, with whom the Divine Presence was; “the wicked are silenced in darkness” refers to the kings struck at night.
