זוהר בראשית — דף קיג ע”א

Summary

The Zohar stresses how dear Abraham was to the Holy One, blessed be He: wherever he went he spared nothing of his own, in order to cleave to Him. Hence “He guards the feet of His faithful” refers to his wife, whom Abimelech did not approach; of Pharaoh it is said, “The Lord struck Pharaoh.” “The wicked are silenced in darkness” refers to Pharaoh and Abimelech, judged at night. On “The Lord remembered Sarah,” Rabbi Ḥiya opens with Zechariah’s verse about Joshua the high priest and the accuser: “the angel of the Lord” is the place where the souls of the righteous are bound, and the accuser is the evil inclination that incites, when Nebuchadnezzar cast Joshua into the fire. The accuser accuses only in times of danger; he demanded that all be burned or all be saved, since a miracle and a judgment are not carried out by halves.
