זוהר בראשית — דף קיג ע”ב

Summary

The discussion continues: Rabbi Yose objects from the splitting of the sea, where there was a miracle for Israel and judgment for the Egyptians, and the answer is that a miracle and a judgment together are hard before Him. The Holy One, blessed be He, does not judge the wicked until their sin is complete, as in “for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.” The accuser pressed his charge against Joshua until it was said to him, “The Lord rebuke you, accuser”; the text says sometimes “the angel of the Lord” and sometimes “the Lord,” as with Moses at the bush. On the day when judgment is in the world, the accuser incites above and below and takes souls. Rabbi Shimon, studying the passage of the heifer, weeps: since the evil serpent seduced man, it rules over the world, and the world will not leave its punishment until the King Messiah comes.
