זוהר בראשית — דף קיה ע”ב

Summary

Children are an inheritance from the tree of life: “Happy is the man who has filled his quiver with them.” The “enemies in the gate” are the accusers summoned before the soul as it leaves this world, and the children it left behind stand up for it. Rabbi Yehuda and Rabbi Yose walk along the road, and the Divine Presence accompanies those who speak words of Torah. Rabbi Yose opens with “Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the innermost parts of your house”: a modest woman at home is fit to bear upright children, and like the vine she is not grafted with another species. “Your children like olive shoots” is her reward. “Behold, thus shall the man who fears the Lord be blessed” teaches that as long as the Divine Presence is modest in her place, Israel dwells in the land, around your table.
