זוהר בראשית — דף קכ ע”א
Summary
The Zohar explains the verse “On the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place from afar”: the place is Jacob, who was to come from Isaac, and Abraham saw him from afar in the mirror that does not shine, since Jacob had not yet been born. It explains why Abraham did not answer Isaac at once, and what “God will see for Himself the lamb” means. Rabbi Shimon interprets “Behold, the Arelim cry outside” as referring to the angels who wept at the binding. The text then turns to “The angel of the Lord called to him” and the repeated “Abraham, Abraham,” comparing it with “Samuel, Samuel” and “Moses, Moses.”
