זוהר בראשית — דף קכה ע”א
Summary
The Zohar explains that the child has nothing of his own and receives blessings only at fixed times. It then comments on “Sarah died in Kiriath-arba”: her death did not come through the primordial serpent, which has ruled over the world’s inhabitants since Adam’s sin, just as with Moses, Aaron and Miriam, of whom it says “by the mouth of the Lord.” Kiriath-arba is Hebron, where King David joined the patriarchs. When a person’s days are no longer sustained in the upper ranks, they descend to the rank where death dwells, which receives permission to take the soul, and the body becomes impure. The text describes the serpent of the firmament, to which the small stars are bound, and groups of angels of judgment appointed over human deeds.
