זוהר בראשית — דף קכט ע”א
Summary
The Zohar explains the secret of the field of Machpelah: the letter hei of the holy Name is the one that is “double,” and the cave of Machpelah bears this name because it is a cave within a cave. Abraham knew this and veiled the matter in his words to the children of Heth. The Holy One, blessed be He, made this world in the image of the one above, so as to join the two together. The text then comments on “Abraham was old, advanced in days”: Rabbi Yehuda opens with “Happy is the one You choose and bring near,” and teaches that Abraham did not draw near in a single day; his deeds brought him closer from rank to rank, until he entered the upper days, in the secret of faith, from which all blessings issue. It adds that penitents draw near to the Holy One, blessed be He, in a single moment.
