זוהר בראשית — דף קמג ע”ב

Summary

The Zohar sets the curses that fell on the earth after the serpent beside Isaac’s blessings: “of the fat of the earth” answers “cursed is the ground,” “of the dew of heaven” answers “in toil,” and “peoples shall serve you” answers “by the sweat of your brow.” Rabbi Ḥizkiah objects from Esau’s blessing, and Rabbi Shimon replies that the levels are distinct: for Jacob, the upper dew flowing from the Ancient of Days and the land of life above; for Esau, the earth and heaven below. Rabbi Elazar says these blessings stand, and that at the coming of the Messiah Jacob will receive above and below, “and the kingdom shall be the Lord’s.” Finally “Jacob had scarcely left” points to two departures: that of the Divine Presence and that of Jacob.
