זוהר בראשית — דף קנד ע”ב

Summary

The lower world, the Shemitah, is revealed and is called “you,” while the upper world, the Yovel, is hidden and is called “he,” as in “he lay with her that night”; this is why Leah’s deeds were concealed from Jacob. The world was sustained because of Jacob: Abraham was redeemed through him, and earlier the Holy One, blessed be He, had been building worlds and destroying them, whereas afterward they were no longer destroyed. Israel is called a son of the Holy One, blessed be He. Reuben is named without further description because he includes three sides, among them Simeon and Levi; Rabbi Yehuda cites “the excellency of dignity and the excellency of power”: birthright, priesthood and kingship. Finally, the supernal chariot is evoked, the patriarchs and David, with the verse “this time I will praise the Lord”: in exile the holy Name is not complete.
