זוהר בראשית — דף קנט ע”ב

Summary

The Zohar specifies that the twenty-seven orders correspond to the letters: nine belong to the feminine and eighteen to the masculine; the letters above are large, those below small. On the verse “God remembered Rachel,” it asks why “visit” is said of Sarah but “remembrance” of Rachel, and answers through the mazal; a passage from the supplements also mentions Joseph and the “innocent ox.” Rabbi Hiya links the verse to “I remembered My covenant” and to “I have surely visited you,” said during the exile, and explains that the Divine Presence is above and below, exiled together with Israel. In a parable, a king whose son has died overturns his bed and places thorns beneath it; so does the Holy One, blessed be He, after the Temple’s destruction, as in the burning bush. Since Rachel had not been mentioned earlier, “remembrance” is said of her.
