זוהר בראשית — דף קס ע”ב
Summary
The Zohar teaches that a person who prays should include himself among the many, like the Shunammite who said “I dwell among my own people” on Rosh Hashanah, so that his sins are not recalled. Rabbi Yehuda opens with “Have the gates of death been revealed to you?”, said to Job, and explains that death and the shadow of death form a single union, that of the angel of death and its rider; these gates are closed to human beings. The Holy One, blessed be He, declares that everything is in His power and that death will be swallowed up forever. The text then explains that “Elohim” is said twice of Rachel, one from the masculine and one from the feminine, and that Jacob knew Rachel was destined to complete the tribes without remaining in the world. The passage opens with “Return to the land of your fathers” and goes on to the exchange between Laban and Jacob about wages.
