זוהר בראשית — דף קסח ע”א

Summary

Rabbi Yehuda recalls that the Torah is the life of the world, and Rabbi Elazar says that one who engages in it does not die at the hand of the evil impulse but “by a kiss,” and his body is not defiled. The question is asked why Jacob was afraid: he did not want to rely on a miracle, and a person must always fear and pray. The prayer of the fathers sustains the world, and one who sees Jacob in a dream has his life increased. Rabbi Shimon explains “he asked You for life”: David had no life of his own; Adam gave him seventy years, and the patriarchs left him a share of their days: Abraham five years, Jacob twenty-eight, and Joseph thirty-seven, while Isaac left him nothing.
