זוהר בראשית — דף קסח ע”ב

Summary

The Zohar explains that Isaac left David no years because he belongs to the side of darkness, and that Joseph left him the most, being the righteous one who illuminates the moon. Jacob’s prayer protected him from Esau, and he did not rely on his own merit. He divided the people and the flocks into two camps, so that if Esau attacked one, the other would escape, and he placed the maidservants and their children first, since the Divine Presence does not leave the tents of Leah and Rachel. He then prayed: “God of my father Abraham.” Rabbi Yose comments on “a prayer of the poor”: the prayer of the poor precedes all the prayers of the world and is compared to “a prayer of Moses.” Rabbi Elazar says that the prayers of the righteous are a joy for the Assembly of Israel.
