זוהר בראשית — דף קסט ע”א

Summary

The Zohar comments on Jacob’s prayer: “God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac” alludes to the union of right and left. Jacob says, “I am unworthy of all the kindnesses,” because everything done for him came from the Holy One, blessed be He, and not from his own merit. The text draws a lesson: a person should first arrange the praise of his Master and only then make a request, stating it precisely: “from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau.” The verse “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable” distinguishes what is spoken aloud from what is held in the heart. Rabbi Hiyya then opens with “No evil shall befall you” and begins to speak of the diminished moon and the spirits given a place.
