זוהר בראשית — דף קע ע”א
Summary
The Zohar explains “And a man wrestled with him”: according to Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi, the dust of their feet rose up to the throne of glory; according to Rabbi Shimon, it refers to fine dust, which differs from earth because it yields no fruit. “Until the break of dawn” means a change of dominion: the exile is like night, and when the day comes, sovereignty will be given to the people of the holy ones of the Most High. Rabbi Yehuda applies the verse “Who is she that looks forth like the dawn?” to Israel: their light opens little by little, like dawn, then the moon, then the sun, then “awesome as bannered hosts.” Esau, by contrast, is lit all at once and then dwindles little by little.
