זוהר בראשית — דף קעד ע”א

Summary

Rabbi Yose asks why Jacob is still called “Jacob” after it was said “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob.” The answer: names correspond to particular ranks, and, unlike Abraham, the text here does not say “it shall be.” Next comes the explanation of Rachel’s death: Benjamin is always in the west, and every beginning is hard before it becomes easy, like the judgment of Rosh Hashanah or the trial of Saul. In the future the Holy One, blessed be He, will first turn calmly toward the nations and then with severe judgment, as in “The Lord will go out like a mighty man.” Finally, Rabbi Yehuda opens with “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble.”
