זוהר בראשית — דף קפב ע”א
Summary
On “at the time when the women who draw water go out”: at that time, those who draw from the waters of the Torah will rise first, for the tree of life caused it. “Go out” means that the earth will cast out the bodies within it, and “drawing water” means receiving a soul. The maiden who is asked “let down your jar” is a soul that strove to know its Master, and the righteous give drink to every level. “The woman” is the body prepared for the soul, and the desire of male and female produces a soul. After these bodies, the other lands will rise and the world will be renewed. From here the text turns to “as many were appalled at you”: at the destruction, the Divine Presence went into exile, the angels of peace wept and the sun darkened, “so his appearance was marred.” Blessings rest only where male and female are found together, hence “the righteous man has perished.”
