זוהר בראשית — דף קצ ע”ב

Summary

The Zohar expounds the verses “She spoke to Joseph day after day, but he did not listen to her”: the evil inclination goes up every day to accuse, and Joseph did not listen to her. Rabbi Abba teaches that it entices a person away from the path of truth, and that whoever clings to it becomes defiled in this world and in the next. “On that day” is the day a person repents or engages in Torah; the inclination then comes down to accuse, and a person must be strong as a lion. “She caught him by his garment”: the inclination adorns a person, but the righteous overcome it and flee. Rabbi Yitzhak says that in the future the righteous will see the inclination as a great mountain and the wicked as a hair’s thread, and the Holy One, blessed be He, will slaughter it before their eyes.
