זוהר בראשית — דף קצד ע”א
Summary
The Zohar explains that the seven cows rise from the river, which is Joseph, and that seven levels are nourished and blessed from it: fair to look at and fat of flesh, they graze in the reeds, in union and fellowship. Rabbi Yitzhak and Rabbi Yehuda distinguish the good cows and ears, from the side of holiness, from the bad ones, from the side of impurity. Rabbi Yisa wonders how this was shown to Pharaoh; Rabbi Yehuda replies that a person sees in a dream according to his own level. Rabbi Hizkiah opens with “For everything there is a season”: for each thing the Holy One, blessed be He, has set a time, for light as for darkness. Pharaoh saw his dream from the side of the end of darkness. On “his spirit was troubled,” Rabbi Yose distinguishes Pharaoh, who knew the dream but not its interpretation, from Nebuchadnezzar, who forgot everything; the spirit came and went without settling.
