זוהר בראשית — דף קצז ע”ב
Summary
The Zohar reports Rabbi Yitzhak’s statement that David merited to be joined with the patriarchs. Rabbi Yisa and Rabbi Hizkiah walk from Cappadocia to Lod with a Jew carrying a wineskin, and Rabbi Hizkiah opens with “Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.” He explains that whoever follows the ways of the Torah receives peace in both worlds. The Jew adds that the ways open from the patriarchs toward the great sea, and that pleasantness is the sweetness of the World to Come; at the close of Shabbat one asks “Let the pleasantness of the Lord be upon us,” and the paths are those the covenant, called peace, leads into the sea. Joseph was a covenant of peace, while Jacob did not know, the Divine Presence having left him. “Why do you look at one another?”: one should not show oneself in a time of distress.
