זוהר בראשית — דף ר ע”ב
Summary
The Zohar explains “He put them in custody for three days” by comparison with the three days at Shechem, and stresses that Joseph did not act as Simeon and Levi had at Shechem. It interprets “each said to his brother” as referring to Simeon and Levi, and says Joseph took Simeon so that the two would not accuse together; he fed and gave him drink as a brother. Rabbi Yose opens with “If you are whole, so shall you be many, they shall be shorn and pass away,” and explains that when peace reigns in a people judgment has no hold over them, and that charity (tzedakah) is peace. He also comments on the verse concerning keeping the covenant: “whole” means complete, and “passes” refers to the removal of the impurity of the foreskin.
