זוהר בראשית — דף רו ע”א

Summary

The Zohar continues on the three levels of the soul, nefesh, ruaḥ and neshamah: in one who merits to serve his Master, the nefesh comes first, then the ruaḥ, and finally the neshamah, which makes him a friend of the Holy One, blessed be He. The text asks how to understand “all in whose nostrils was the breath of life” at the flood; a supplement marked by the editor (“completion from the omissions”) applies it to righteous people such as Enoch and Jared, who had already departed, so that none remained to protect the world. The three levels draw near to one another. Then “he approached him” refers to the drawing near of Judah and Joseph, two kings, since Judah had pledged himself for Benjamin; the verse “the kings assembled” is applied to them.
