זוהר בראשית — דף רח ע”א
Summary
The Zohar continues: marriages and sustenance are as hard as the splitting of the Red Sea and depend on what is above; one must therefore bless “the Lord” and give strength from below. Toward the side of holiness one shows satiety, toward the other side, hunger. Rabbi Yehuda praises the righteous whose drawing near makes peace, like that of Judah and Joseph. On “Joseph could not restrain himself,” Rabbi Ḥiyya opens with “He has scattered abroad, he has given to the poor”: man was created to rule, and the variety of people exists so that they may bring merit to one another. Rabbi Elazar explains that the world stands on one pillar, the righteous one, who waters and feeds all, and who is called the collector of charity. According to the text, “the wicked shall see and be vexed” refers to the rule of the idolaters.
