Jacob blessed Joseph last in the portion of Vayechi, because Joseph encompassed all the tribes of Israel within himself. Just as Joseph holds a share in Jacob, so Jacob holds a share in Joseph. The blessing that Jacob gave to Joseph is the one upon which the entire body of Israel depends throughout all generations.
