When Jacob died, the great light disappeared. For in every righteous man there is a spark of divine light. When he departs, the light ascends above. The world grows somewhat dark until another righteous man comes to fill his place. Every generation has its righteous man who is its light. Jacob departed but his light continues to shine in Israel from generation to generation.
