Jacob awaited the salvation of Israel whose hope, expressed indefinitely, is eternal. The tribe of Gad represents the river that flows from Eden, Gimel giving and Dalet receiving. Because Gad was born of the handmaidens, he did not inherit the Holy Land. Blessed is the portion of the righteous who labor in Torah, for it is their life and the length of their days.
