Parashah Beshalah. When ox and donkey are yoked together the world cannot withstand them, for they are two opposing forces. Israel merited to ride upon the donkey, a symbol of supernal abundance. Amalek is the force from the side of impurity that battles Israel, while Joshua represents the opposing force. The battle against Amalek is symbolized by erasing his name, meaning the erasure of the force of evil from the world. Moses s raised hands symbolize the elevation of spiritual forces that enable the victory.
