Parashah Yitro. Yitro heard, for Yitro heard and was broken, while the whole world heard but was not broken. The breaking of his heart brought him to come and join Israel. Yitro represents the non-Jew who joins Israel wholeheartedly. True hearing leads to change: Yitro did not merely hear but acted. Yitro rejoiced, the joy of the redemption that generated spiritual joy. The distinction between mere hearing and hearing that leads to repentance and action.
