זוהר שמות — דף קסג ע”א

Summary

“With all your heart” means with both inclinations, the good and the evil, each one called a heart. “With all your soul” includes nefesh, ruah and neshamah together. The evil inclination only tests man to fulfill the will of the Creator. The service of the Holy One is greater still when a person breaks his evil inclination and draws it toward divine service. Parable: a king commanded his son to avoid a bad woman, then sent a harlot to tempt him; when the son pushed her away, the father rejoiced and brought him behind the palace’s inner curtain. So the evil inclination is a messenger of the Holy One to test us — all of it is the will of the Creator.
