Rabbi Shimon was sitting by the gate of Lod and met a child who sought a secret within him. The child opened and asked about the secret of the splitting of the Red Sea and about the secret of the holy youth Jonah son of Amittai. Rabbi Shimon opened and explained that the song of the sea resembles the song of a woman. The Red Sea alludes to the secret of Judgment and the supernal Kingdom, and its splitting signals the tiqqun of the world. The secret of Jonah son of Amittai is the secret of the righteous who serves the Kingdom and maintains the covenant.
