The supernal river above sends forth souls that fly from it into the Garden. The river below in the earthly Garden prepares souls to settle in those luminous spaces. The scent of water in this world stabilizes the soul for its enjoyment. Souls descend through a chain of stages from above to below, and ascend by the reverse path. The secret of souls is that they travel between the upper and lower Gardens in a cyclical process.
