זוהר בראשית — דף עג ע”ב

Summary

According to the Zohar, through the drinking of the wine Ham, father of Canaan, was exposed; the episode is compared with the sons of Aaron and the “strange fire,” and it is said “cursed be Canaan,” the curses being tied to the serpent. The text opens with the verse “for I know my transgressions” and describes how sin leaves a mark that spreads when repeated; it then speaks of David, from whom the mark was removed, of Bathsheba and Uriah, and of David’s fear. It also explains the flaw of the moon until the coming of Solomon and the Messiah. Finally Nimrod is described as a mighty hunter who wore Adam’s garments, led people toward idolatry and rebelled against his Master.
