זוהר בראשית — דף צב ע”א
Summary
Rabbi Yosi opens with the verse “Your people shall all be righteous; they shall inherit the land forever” and says there are winged creatures that roam the world, catch every voice and bring it to judgment, for good or for ill. The discussion turns to when this judgment takes place: the soul leaves during sleep and testifies against a person, attesting at night to all he did by day. The text describes the start of the night: the gates close, the herald proclaims, the harsh judgments awaken and the moon begins to shine; then the sounders of the alarm blow, and song awakens. At midnight the Holy One, blessed be He, awakens to delight with the righteous in the Garden of Eden, where the voice of one who studies Torah at that hour is heard. Rabbi Hezekiah adds that such a person always has a share in the World to Come.
