זוהר בראשית — דף צה ע”א

Summary

Rabbi Abba approves these words: whoever does not speak this way excludes himself from the ten canopies that the Holy One, blessed be He, will prepare for the righteous in the World to Come. The text then examines the verse “An altar of earth you shall make for Me”: one who brings his son into the covenant is as though he offered all the sacrifices, hence the custom of setting out a vessel with earth. It distinguishes the altar of earth from the altar of stones, and explains that, according to the text, one who converts must remove hardness of heart and his former worship, otherwise the circumcision does not help him. Another asks about the verse “Abram was ninety-nine years old”: had the Holy One, blessed be He, not appeared to him before? The text also discusses “I am El Shaddai” and the letters shin, dalet and yod.
