זוהר בראשית — דף קלד ע”א
Summary
Rabbi Hizkiyah explains “Who gave Jacob over to plunder?”: when the Temple was destroyed, the Divine Presence wished to go into exile with Israel, but first visited her house and sanctuary; a sound of weeping was heard above and below, as in “A voice is heard in Ramah.” In exile, the Assembly of Israel saw the people trampled and spoke the verse, and they answered, “Is it not the Lord, against whom we have sinned?” In the future, the Holy One, blessed be He, will rebuild the Temple and Jerusalem, then raise her from the dust and gather Israel’s dispersed, which will lead to the resurrection of the dead. The section Toledot then begins: Rabbi Hiya opens with “Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord?” and teaches that the Holy One, blessed be He, looked into the Torah to create the world.
