זוהר בראשית — דף קמט ע”א
Summary
Rabbi Yitsḥak weeps and then rejoices, and reports to Rabbi Shimon what he heard from a man descended from Rabbi Tsadok the Weak, who fasted for forty years so that Jerusalem would not be destroyed in his lifetime. The man explains why he had not invited him to his son’s wedding, and passes on to him supernal secrets of the Torah, his son adding secrets about prophecy and about dreams. The text distinguishes prophecy, which belongs to the male world, from the dream, which belongs to the female world, with six degrees between them. It then explains the verse “he dreamed, and behold a ladder” through Ezekiel’s “The word of the Lord came, came”: a prophecy for the moment, tied to the exile, one “came” above and one below. Finally, it begins to comment on “by the river Kevar.”
