זוהר בראשית — דף קנח ע”ב
Summary
The upper world is hidden and the lower world revealed, and we bless the Holy One, blessed be He, “from world to world”; the word “he” (hu) refers to the upper and “you” (atah) to the lower, and the two Names of the Lord are two worlds. Rabbi Yehuda explains that Jacob would leave only with Laban’s permission, and feared that the twelve tribes would be completed in another land; when Benjamin was born, the Divine Presence was bound to the tribes, Rachel died and took the house, and Jacob fled. Rabbi Shimon praises Rabbi Yehuda’s words; Rabbi Abba compares Moses and Jethro, and explains that, according to the text, Laban was a sorcerer, hence Jacob fled without leave. Finally he opens with “For the choirmaster, for the sons of Korah, upon alamoth”: the songs of the sons of Korah and of David were in the secret of Ḥokhmah, and the Holy One, blessed be He, made the lower world like the upper.
