זוהר בראשית — דף קעז ע”א

Summary

The Zohar describes that since the destruction of the Temple there is no day without wrath, and that Israel is in exile until the Holy One, blessed be He, redeems them from among the nations. On the verse “These are the generations of Esau, who is Edom,” it explains that Esau’s sons were counted only after Isaac’s death, because Esau is not in the portion of faith; Esau left the land before Jacob, who remained attached to his fathers’ inheritance. Rabbi Yesa opens with “I have made you small among the nations”: the Holy One, blessed be He, divided the earth among seventy peoples corresponding to seventy appointed princes, and, according to the text, Esau’s prince is the most despised, because he stems from the side of impurity. The text then describes ranks and knots on the side of impurity.
