זוהר בראשית — דף קפב ע”ב
Summary
“And he was a lad”: the righteous one and righteousness are never separated and are called by each other’s name. “These are the generations of Jacob: Joseph”: Jacob’s likeness was in Joseph, like the letter vav. “Their evil report”: Joseph reported that they ate a limb from a living animal, while Rabbi Yehuda explains that they had set their eyes on the daughters of the land. On “Israel loved Joseph,” Rabbi Elazar opens with “Come, my people, enter your chambers” and explains the love of the Holy One, blessed be He, for Israel: three times a day judgment rests on the world, and a person must be careful and shut himself in, like Noah in the ark. According to the text, the other peoples hate Israel because Israel is close to God, and Jacob’s love for Joseph led to the brothers’ plotting and to exile.
