זוהר בראשית — דף קפט ע”ב

Summary

The Zohar opens with “After these things.” Rabbi Hiyya expounds the verse “Bless the Lord, you His angels, mighty in strength”: a person must guard against sin, for the evil inclination accuses him every day; those who overcome it are called angels of the Holy One, blessed be He, like Joseph, who kept the covenant. Rabbi Elazar explains that Joseph gave the accusation an opening by curling his hair. The text then describes rain withheld because of human sins and violations of the covenant, in contrast to the “rain of bounty” when the covenant is kept; “Your inheritance” refers to Israel, and “weary” to the Assembly of Israel. Finally, Rabbi Elazar cites “to keep you from the evil woman” and teaches that whoever engages in Torah day and night inherits two worlds.
