זוהר בראשית — דף קצא ע”ב
Summary
The Zohar adds that with Israel’s exile the Divine Presence is with them, and that whoever engages in Torah and good deeds enables the Assembly of Israel to lift its head in exile. The Holy One, blessed be He, sets events turning in order to raise the head of the righteous: thus the cupbearer and the baker of Pharaoh offend their master so that Joseph may be elevated. Joseph interprets each dream according to its root and entrusts the interpretation to God; the dream is the sixth level, and interpretation rests on speech. Rabbi Elazar then opens with Elisha’s request, “let a double portion of your spirit be upon me,” explaining that he asked for two modes of conduct within the same spirit, a gift tied to seeing Elijah taken.
