זוהר בראשית — דף רז ע”א
Summary
The Zohar continues on David’s sleep: he took care not to taste death and slept only sixty breaths less one, which are the secret of the life above; one who sleeps and does not wake at midnight becomes bound to the place of death. The man identifies himself as Ḥizkiyah and, at Rabbi Yehuda’s request, opens with “The Lord by wisdom founded the earth”: the world was created through the Torah, the upper world from supernal wisdom and the lower from lower wisdom. He explains “the heavens are not pure in His eyes” out of His love for them. The heavens are Jacob, and Joseph is a branch from him who gives plenty to the world. Rabbi Elazar arrives and adds that there are also sixty breaths of slumber, from the side of death.
