When a person walks in the right path, the Holy One blessed be He constantly protects him and the Other Side has no power over him. But when he clings to evil, the divine protection departs and evil rules over him. Moses protested that the evil side had been given permission to dominate Israel. Elijah, being more united with the divine Will than any other person, endured. Scripture says 'to his soul' rather than 'his soul,' since the latter refers to the feminine.
