זוהר שמות — דף יז ע”א

Summary

There is no nation as lowly and despised before the Holy One as Egypt, yet He gave them dominion because of Israel. The exile of Ishmael is the harshest of all exiles for Israel, as the sons of Ishmael ruled over Israel with every kind of affliction and decreed persecutions against them. Rabbi Yehoshua was going up to Jerusalem and met an Arab who called his son by a sacred name of Israel. Rabbi Yehoshua suspected that Arab intended harm to Israel, and he answered him that the holy names are the exclusive property of Israel whom the Lord has watched over.
