Parasha Vayakhel — folio 200a. Rabbi Hiyya opens: God created the world only so that Israel would receive the Torah. Shabbat is witness to this — one who desecrates Shabbat is as if denying the renewal of worlds. “Take from among yourselves an offering” — all Israel is obligated to raise from their souls an offering for the Shekhinah. God rejoices in Israel’s offering as a father rejoices in his son’s gift, and when Israel gathers on Shabbat, they testify to the supernal union.
