זוהר ויקרא — דף ח ע”ב

Summary

Continuing the discussion: the true joy of the penitent is the joy of Torah, and in prayer one must direct intention toward the two upper gates — Chesed and Pachad. The offering is set according to the rank and heart of the one bringing it: the rich bring an ox, the average person from the flock, and the poor the lightest of all. Rabbi Elazar asks his father Rabbi Shimon why famine strikes the poor rather than the wealthy sinners, and the answer begins by explaining that when the Holy One, blessed be He, wishes to punish the wicked, He first grants them peace and abundance.
