The Zohar comments on the verse 'Hear my prayer, O Lord': the whispered prayer is addressed to the Name of the Lord (attribute of mercy), while the loud cry is addressed to Elohim (attribute of judgment). The Zohar teaches that man's reward in this world is fleeting and illusory, and after death he returns to dust without recognizing anything. The secrets of waves at sea and the fate of the soul after death are also elaborated upon.
